Paul George knows exactly what 76ers need to do amid 2-0 hole vs. Knicks
They had their chances, but the Philadelphia 76ers could not close out the New York Knicks in Game 2 to fall 2-0 in their second-round showdown in the playoffs.
Despite missing Joel Embiid due to various injuries, the 76ers kept the game close against the Knicks, a stark contrast to their 38-point loss in Game 1. The Sixers, however, eventually ran out of steam.
The best-of-seven series shifts to Philadelphia on Friday, but the 76ers cannot be overconfident. Remember, they lost twice at Xfinity Mobile Arena to the Boston Celtics in the first round, digging themselves a 3-1 hole before clawing back.
But aside from protecting their home turf, Paul George underlined the importance of upsetting the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, as reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Noah Levick.
“Our job is to go home and win on our floor to keep the series alive. We do understand that at some point, we’re going to have to steal one here,” said George after Game 2.
But of course, they have to win the next two games first before even thinking about winning in New York.
Curiously, in their four meetings in the regular season, the 76ers won twice at Madison Square Garden, while the Knicks won twice at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
George had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in Game 2. He shot 7-of-18 from the field, including 5-of-13 from long distance.
“I thought we just ran out of gas. We got a little flat. We got some pretty good looks, for the most part. We just didn’t knock them down,” added the nine-time All-Star.
As of writing, Embiid is questionable for Game 3.
