Paige Buckers gets 100% real on Wings’ big first win of season
While the Dallas Wings beat the Indiana Fever in the regular season opener on Saturday afternoon, 107-104, the win was led by second-year star guard Paige Bueckers. Though Azzi Fudd didn’t start for the Wings, Bueckers and company led the way for a huge victory against Caitlin Clark and the Fever, with the 2025 No. 1 overall pick giving her reactions after the game.
Speaking to the media during her post-game press conference, Beckers would celebrate the victory on Saturday by poking fun at Dallas from last season, who didn’t get their first win until the fifth game.
“I’m not one to live in the past, but I don’t remember how long it was until we got our first win last season,” Bueckers said, reportedly with a chuckle, according to Drake Keeler.
As the Wings started 1-4 last season, the team’s second win wouldn’t come until eight games after that, so winning for this team will hopefully be more of a recurring event. In the win over the Fever, Bueckers scored 20 points on eight of 10 shooting from the field, one of three from beyond the arc, to go along with four assists and three rebounds.
There’s no denying that taking down Clark and Indiana feels good for the Wings, as it was said by Keeler that there was “good vibes” in the press conferences, though the team wants to see themselves be better on the defensive side.
“Good vibes in the presser with Paige [Bueckers]/Arike [Ogunbowale]/Odyssey [Sims]. Happy with the win, though they’ve emphasized wanting better defense,” Keeler wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
At any rate, Bueckers and Dallas look to get a second straight win when the team takes on the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.
