Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving catches friend Paige Bueckers at Wings-Valkyries clash
Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is enjoying the calmness of his NBA offseason in Dallas, giving support to Paige Bueckers during the Wings’ clash with the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night.
Irving is preparing for the 15th year of his NBA career, his fifth with the Mavericks. He has fully gone through ACL rehab as he looks forward to returning to elite star form for the Dallas squad.
In the meantime, Irving has taken time out of his summer to attend games of interest. One of them involves Bueckers, who has shined in her second WNBA season with the Wings. With Dallas in the mix for playoff contention, Irving made the decision to show up to the game in support for his fellow colleague.

What lies ahead for Kyrie Irving, Mavericks
Paige Bueckers and the Wings are having great success as they make their case as playoff contenders. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving and the Mavericks look to shock many people by overachieving expectations throughout the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
Irving tore his ACL in February 2025, missing the rest of the 2024-25 season and all of the 2025-26 campaign. In the 50 games he played before the injury, the star guard averaged 24.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He had shooting splits of 47.3% from the field, including 40.1% from downtown, and 91.6% from the free-throw line.
Dallas finished with a 26-56 record last season, being at 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They were above the Memphis Grizzlies and the Sacramento Kings while being behind the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors.
The Mavericks made the NBA Finals in 2024 before missing the playoffs entirely in the last two seasons. They hope to return to postseason contention, something that will be challenging in a tough Western Conference.
Irving has been plenty of situations in his career, the ACL tear being his latest obstacle. At age 34, he will have to prove he can still perform at a high level to deliver wins for the Mavericks.
