Commanders OL drops brutal Stefon Diggs ‘date my sister’ take after signing

The Washington Commanders made a huge splash this week by signing four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Naturally, he is already making waves at training camp, but it is not just his route-running that is catching everyone’s attention. Washington offensive lineman Sam Cosmi had a hilarious response when discussing his new teammate, delivering a callback that longtime NFL fans will absolutely love.

When speaking to the media following practice, reporters asked Cosmi for his early impressions of the veteran pass-catcher.

“I mean he’s a heck of a ball player,” Cosmi said via John Doran of Commanders media. “From a perspective of media, I wouldn’t let him date my sister. I don’t know where that came from, locker room, so we’ll see if that’s true.”

Cosmi’s brutal yet playful quote is a direct reference to a viral video from 2017 during Diggs’s time with the Minnesota Vikings. In that video, multiple Vikings players overwhelmingly named Diggs as the teammate they would least want to date their sister. At the time, Diggs defended himself with a smile, claiming, “I’m a great guy… They just don’t know me well enough.” Nearly a decade later, that legendary reputation has officially followed him to the nation’s capital.

Jokes aside, the Commanders are getting a highly productive playmaker who can immediately elevate quarterback Jayden Daniels’s development. Following stints with the Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and most recently the New England Patriots, Diggs brings an immense resume to Washington. The 32-year-old led the Patriots in 2025 with 85 receptions and 1,013 receiving yards. Throughout his spectacular 11-year career, Diggs has racked up 942 catches for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns.

While Cosmi might not be introducing Diggs to his family anytime soon, Washington’s offensive line will certainly be thrilled to watch him haul in deep passes this season. If Diggs and Daniels can quickly build chemistry, the Commanders’ offense will be extremely dangerous.
