Nike’s Victor Wembanyama ad after Spurs reach NBA Finals is epic

On Saturday evening, the San Antonio Spurs punched their ticket to their first NBA Finals in 12 years with a Game 7 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road. The Spurs will now move on to play the New York Knicks for the right to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy.

While it wasn’t his most dominant game of the series, Victor Wembanyama played solid basketball in his first career Game 7, scoring 22 points in the win, and after the game, Nike Basketball, with whom the superstar is signed, took to X, formerly Twitter, with an epic hype video, referencing Wemby’s status as an NBA “alien.”

Wembanyama has had quite the eventful first postseason run. In the first round against the Portland Trail Blazers, the star missed one and a half games due to a concussion before coming back and dominating. In the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was ejected from a game for elbowing opponent Naz Reid in the throat, and was very lucky to avoid a suspension.

Against the Thunder, Wemby made his case as the best player in the world with an all-time Game 1 performance. Although he struggled with some inconsistency as the matchup wore on, Wembanyama was still overall the best player in a series that featured two-time league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, thanks in no small part to his prowess on the defensive end of the floor.

Wembanyama now has a chance to pull off the ultra-rare feat of winning a championship as the team’s best player in one’s first postseason run, something last accomplished by Bill Walton nearly five decades ago.

Game 1 of the Spurs’ series vs the Knicks is slated to get underway on Wednesday evening at 8:30 pm ET in San Antonio.
