Nick Sirianni opens up about Eagles life without Jeff Stoutland

When news broke that Jeff Stoutland would not return to the Philadelphia Eagles after over a decade in the trenches as an assistant coach, it marked a true inflection point in franchise history.

Arguably the greatest position coach in franchise history, who famously turned an Australian rugby player with no organized football experience into an All-Pro, Stoutland has consistently kept the Eagles elite on the offensive line over multiple different head coaches, leaving a massive hole for his replacement, Chris Kuper, to fill.

Discussing what it’s like to have Kuper take over for Stoutland heading into 2026, Nick Sirianni broke down why he’s excited about the Eagles’ new direction on the offensive line.

“It’s not about the win over. It’s about daily doing what your job is supposed to be. That’s the players doing that with Chris and [with] us as a coaching staff, and us as coaches doing that with them. You’re constantly putting deposits in the bank by building trust, by your knowledge, your conviction, daily work. That’s what we’re working on right now is that, and that’s on both ends,” Sirianni said.

“These guys have to build trust with him, and he’s got to build trust with them. It’s not a one-way street, and that never is. That’s what we’re working on right now, but I love the way Chris comes to work. I’ve been with the offensive line for the last five years. I love how they come to work with an attempt to get better every single day. Then the same thing on Chris’ part, great knowledge for the game, great ability to connect with players, great knowledge of the scheme of the different types of things that we’re going to be doing, and then just great growth mindset to figure out things that he may have not done in the past. That’s what we’re working on at this particular moment, and that’s what’s going on.”

Initially drafted into the NFL as a fifth-round guard out of North Dakota in the 2006 NFL Draft, Kuper parlayed an eight-year career into a very successful second career as an offensive line coach, beginning his journey with the Miami Dolphins in 2016 before moving to the Denver Broncos and then the Minnesota Vikings from 2022-25. While only time will tell if Kuper will become a legend like Stoutland or if he was let go by the Vikings for cause, Sirianni is excited about his early returns, and Eagles fans should be too.
