NBA rumors: Lakers call Thunder about trade after getting swept by them
The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make some roster moves, after getting swept out of the NBA Playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles is ironically talking to the Thunder about a possible trade.
“I’m also told that the Lakers have called the Thunder about swingman Lu Dort’s availability,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on his Substack, The Stein Line.
It appears that Oklahoma City is in a tough situation regarding their current roster. Some guys may have to be on the move.
“Oklahoma City is facing a well-chronicled roster crunch, with 15 players currently under contract and two first-round picks to make at Nos. 12 and 17 barring draft-night trade activity, sparking a belief that the Thunder might be open to trading Dort after picking up his $17.2 million team option to make it easier to re-sign big man Isaiah Hartenstein,” Stein wrote.
During the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Dort averaged 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds. During the postseason, Dort struggled with his shooting. He shot just 41 percent from the field in the playoffs series against the Lakers.
The Lakers also reportedly want a big man. There are at least two other players Los Angeles is reportedly interested in.
“The Lakers have been linked to all sorts of veteran big men in the forthcoming free agent market as well. They could emerge as a suitor for the Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson and the Trail Blazers’ Robert Williams III, although sources say both players are very open to remaining in their incumbent roles with the Knicks and Blazers,” Stein added.
The Lakers were bounced out of the NBA Playoffs by Oklahoma City, after defeating the Houston Rockets. Oklahoma City went on to advance to the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder lost that series to the San Antonio Spurs.
