NBA rumors: Darryn Peterson would rather fall to Grizzlies than go to Jazz
With the NBA Draft on the horizon, there continues to be talk about who will go no. 1 overall. Kansas basketball star Darryn Peterson has long been considered a candidate for that honor. A new report reveals that Peterson has a specific preference about where he doesn’t want to go.
“Kansas guard Darryn Peterson does not plan to work out for the Utah Jazz, and his camp believes he has a real chance to go No. 1 to the Washington Wizards while preferring not to land in Utah,” Dallas Hoops Journal reported.
The Washington Wizards currently have the no. 1 overall pick. Peterson is considered an option to go there, along with BYU star AJ Dybantsa and a few others. The Jazz currently have the no. 2 pick.
Peterson would prefer to be drafted by Washington or even the Memphis Grizzlies, the outlet reports. Memphis currently has the no. 3 overall selection.
Dybantsa played his college basketball in Utah, and reports swirl that Utah would like to draft him.
Peterson played one season at Kansas, helping lead the Jayhawks to another NCAA tournament appearance. He missed several games due to injury. He averaged more than 20 points during the season.
“Peterson’s performance raised questions, especially in regard to his decision-making and ability to consistently get paint touches. However, it’s possible these issues go away once he gets into an NBA offensive scheme,” The Athletic reported about his time at Kansas, per their draft guide.
Peterson still has a lot of upside.
“Yes, there are questions that Peterson needs to answer for NBA teams. But the talent is the talent, and Peterson projects to be the kind of player who can dribble, pass, shoot, defend and think the game at a high level as long as his development goes well in the next two years,” The Athletic added.
The NBA Draft starts on June 23. Time will tell who ends up going no. 1 overall.
