Glorious Goodwood Festival day 5 tips (August 1, 2026)

Glorious Goodwood comes to a close on Saturday and the Stewards’ Cup is always a race I look forward to!

Nearly £130K on the line and it looks as competitive as ever with twenty-eight horses heading to post. There is also plenty of quality on the card with the Group 2 Lillie Langtry for the fillies and mares as well as the Group 3 Glorious Stakes that looks a decent renewal.

Hopefully I can end the week with some more winners which really would be the cherry on the cake.

Goodwood 1.50 Highclere Castle Gin Summer Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m6f

After looking unlucky at Newbury VALEDICTORY was given too much to do at Ascot. He put that right winning well at this track on penultimate start despite being a drifter in the betting. He followed up at Newmarket showing a willing attitude and this progressive son of Cracksman has more to come so can land the hat-trick.

Sing Us A Song has form that ties in with the selection and was hampered at Royal Ascot so could be capable of more over this trip and looks the danger. Small Fry is also still unexposed so is another one I can see getting involved.

🏇 Bet on VALEDICTORY to win at 11/4 with BoyleSports 🏇

Goodwood 2.25 Coral Glorious Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (4YO plus) 1m4f

I’m surprised OPPORTUNITY isn’t favourite for this. He impressed winning at Carlisle and then followed up beating Warrant Holder at Royal Ascot. He is a horse improving fast and he has plenty of size and scope so expect him to take another step forward and land the hat-trick now.

Al Aasy isn’t getting any younger but rolled back the years to win at Beverley last time. His second to Convergent at Newbury was another good run so he looks the danger despite his advancing years. In My Teens likely has more to offer too so isn’t completely ignored either.

🏇 Bet on OPPORTUNITY to win at 5/2 with Betfred 🏇

Goodwood 3.00 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Fillies & Mares’ Group 2) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 1m6f

Likeable filly WAARDAH won this 12 months ago beating Danielle and that is how I see it panning out again. She has been highly tried twice since but ran well bumping into Estrange at Carlisle and that form has been given a handsome boost since. She is still lightly raced and this trip is ideal so plenty going for her again.

Danielle arrives on a hat-trick and won’t go down without a fight so looks the danger as I see last year’s form playing out. Consent completely blew out in France on return but has been given time and if bouncing back is definitely worth a second look.

🏇 Bet on WAARDAH to win at 2/1 with Coral 🏇

Goodwood 3.35 Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 6f

The Stewards’ Cup is one of the best punting handicaps of the year on the Flat and after much deliberation I’m going to chance TWO TRIBES winning it again.

He was so impressive 12 months ago and despite being higher in the weights has obvious form claims after bumping into progressive horse Amazing Journey at Ascot last time. This track is perfect for him and if things drop right he will run big.

Lots of dangers possibly headed by Sondad who has won two of his last three now and is delivering on that early promise he showed. He is progressive and despite a career-high mark will run well.

Soldier’s Tree has top-weight but was an excellent third to Double Rush in the Wokingham and can get involved as well.

🏇 Bet on TWO TRIBES each way at 8/1 with BoyleSports 🏇

Goodwood 4.10 Phase Eight Handicap (Class 2) (3YO only) 7f

Those at the top of the market have obvious claims but GHOST MODE looks decent each way value and appeals as being a bit overpriced.

He was so impressive on the AW on reappearance and was only beaten two and a bit lengths at Newmarket when last seen. The step back up to 7f could suit and he still has potential on turf eased a little in the weights.

Naval Light is on a hat-trick and is still unexposed so if improving again could have a say. Wild Desert has still only had a handful of starts and cutting back to 7f could show better form here.

Egoli is another one unexposed over the trip so at a bigger price could also have a squeak.

🏇 Bet on GHOST MODE each way at 15/2 with bet365 🏇

Goodwood 4.45 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings) (Class 2) (2YO only) 7f

Al Wathba showed plenty of promise to finish second on debut at Newmarket. He did race quite freely though and if doing that here he might be a bit vulnerable late on.

I prefer SPEAKERS CORNER for Aidan O’Brien. This colt by Wootton Bassett was beaten three lengths on debut at the Curragh but I can see him taking a big step forward now. The yard won it last year with Isaac Newton and usually target a good one here.

Charted Course caught the eye on debut and then found the Windsor Castle too hot to handle at Royal Ascot. This is easier so he could run well.

Calyx colt Regency Royal was beaten less than two lengths on debut and is another one in with a definite chance.

🏇 Bet on SPEAKERS CORNER each way at 9/2 with Coral 🏇

Goodwood 5.20 Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap (Class 3) (3YO plus) 1m1f

I thought that was a big run from CREST OF FIRE at the time to make Ciarrai Abu pull out all the stops at Ascot last time and given that rival has won a competitive handicap at this meeting earlier in the week the form has been strongly franked. He is tough and likeable and could take a lot of stopping.

Blue Courvoisier was poor in the Britannia but impressed beating Langstone at Carlisle and if bouncing back could ask a few questions. Point Of Contact is another one that needs to bounce back but still retains potential as that York win was quite promising.

🏇 Bet on CREST OF FIRE each way at 7/2 with Betfred 🏇

My top tip for day 5 of Glorious Goodwood

I’m looking forward to seeing VALEDICTORY out again and can see him landing the hat-trick in the opener. WAARDAH won this race 12 months ago and looks a great bet to defend her crown. The double pays double-figures which looks too big.

🏇 Bet a Win Double on VALEDICTORY and WAARDAH at 10/1 with bet365 🏇
