MSG owner James Dolan believes Knicks will bring NBA Championship home

James Dolan has faith in the New York Knicks.

The Madison Square Garden owner shared that he believes this Knicks team has enough skill to bring the NBA Championship home and beat the San Antonio Spurs.

“I feel we’re going to win,” he told Page Six Tuesday night, June 2, ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. “I really think we’re going to win.”

While Dolan is “excited,” he also has a “lot of anxiety” about the championship. The Knicks have not won an NBA Championship since 1973 and haven’t been in the NBA Finals since 1999.

So far, Dolan has not had any trouble sleeping but admits that the night before Game 1 he might have.

“It’s sleeping after that’s harder actually…because you’re all juiced up,” he explained.

Well, even if Dolan might have had a little trouble sleeping, it was worth it as the Knicks currently lead the series 1-0 after they were able to beat the Spurs 105-95 on Wednesday night. While the Knicks were able to walk away with the first win of the series, it was not an easy road. Brunson had two injury scares in the first quarter, and at one point the Knicks trailed the Spurs by 14 points. However, they were able to make it out on top with Brunson becoming the second player in New York Knicks franchise history to score 30 or more points in a Game 1 of the NBA Finals. After Wednesday’s game, Brunson shared where his mindset is at going into Game 2.

“Just continue to trust the things I’ve worked on my entire life,” Brunson said postgame. “I think my teammates have the confidence in me, also gives me an extra boost, as well. I think it starts with my confidence. It comes with my work ethic. I think most importantly, knowing we’re on the road, and knowing my teammates have my back, I think that’s the biggest thing in an environment like this.

“The trust they have in me and the trust I have in them, it’s got us to this point,” he added. “I mean, I’m very thankful for them every single night we go out there together.”

The Knicks will be back at MSG on Monday, June 8 for Game 3 and Wednesday, June 10 for Game 4.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be on Friday, June 5 at 8:30 pm ET at Frost Bank Center.
