Michael Reinsdorf denies secret Arturas Karnisovas contract extension reported last summer

Things are beginning to change at the top for the Chicago Bulls. On Monday, the executive VP of Basketball Operations and General Manager, Marc Eversley, was fired from their positions. AP and Eversley had been with the organization since the 2020-21 season.

Meanwhile, Bulls owner Michael Reinsdorf is coming forward to refute claims that he signed AK to a secret contract extension in July 2025, per K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Sports Network.

Reinsdoft said, “It’s simply not true,” and, in reference to AK and Eversley, “We don’t ever talk about contract lengths.” Last summer, reports surfaced that the Bulls had signed AK and Eversley to contract extensions, which riled up fans.

Additionally, it was reported that the Bulls had issued reports of contract extensions before retracting them, per BlogABull.com.

Over six seasons, Chicago only made one playoff appearance under the leadership of AK and Eversley. Their best season came in 2021-22, in which they went 46-36. In the 2022 Playoffs, they reached the first round before losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in five games. Since then, the Bulls have seen core players being traded, inconsistency, and injuries. The one constant remainder has been head coach Billy Donovan.

Overall, Chicago has compiled a record of 224-254. Meanwhile, the Bulls are 29-49 and in the midst of a seven-game losing streak as the regular season wraps up. Chicago has already been eliminated from both the playoffs and the play-in tournament.

Reinsdorf has been the principal owner of the Bulls since 2010. He is the son of former owner Jerry Reinsdorf.
