Diamondbacks move Ketel Marte from restricted list as crazy saga gets weirder
The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently dealing with some drama concerning star second baseman Ketel Marte. On Thursday, Marte has reportedly been moved by the team from the restricted list to the 10-day injured list.
“Ketel Marte, his agent, Mike Hazen and Torrey Lovullo met today in what was described as a productive meeting. He will go on the 10-day IL today. His MRI showed some inflammation on the upper hamstring and medial joint of the knee. He received an injection this afternoon. The Diamondbacks are hopeful his stay on the IL will be on the short end,” John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM shared via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
This development comes three days after Marte surprisingly did not report to work for a series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston.
The Red Sox took advantage of Marte’s absence and won that game to the tune of an 11-1 score, as the Diamondbacks were left dealing with a saga involving one of their key players.
It is also worth noting that it was not the first time that Marte had failed to show up for a game, as he had done so before during the 2025 MLB season.
Questions remain about Marte’s latest absence, but there is more clarity now.
Without Marte, the Diamondbacks will be one of their top bats to help them make a strong push for the MLB playoffs. Arizona is 10 games behind the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers but only a game off the wild-card picture in the NL.
On the season, Marte is batting .249/.314/.446 with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs through 118 games.
