76ers’ Jaylen Brown thinks NBA 2K27 is selling him short with 91 overall rating

The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the team that eliminated them in the playoffs after he posted the best year of his career and led the C’s to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. The new Philadelphia 76ers star does not need extra motivation heading into the 2026-27 campaign, but he received some just the same.

If the league did not allow Luka Doncic and Cade Cunningham to bypass the 65-game eligibility rule last season, Brown would have secured All-NBA First-Team honors. Despite finishing sixth in MVP voting, the 29-year-old wing actually saw his player rating dip in NBA 2K27. He curiously goes from a 93 to a 91.

Brown and many others are struggling to comprehend this change. He received an 80 for 3-point shooting, 90 for mid-range, 86 for ball-handling skills, 94 for driving dunk, 85 for athleticism, 72 for strength, 79 for playmaking and 74 for defense. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP had a couple of objections.

“The mid-range is probably a little low,” Brown opined. “I’m a mid-range spammer. I feel offended (smiling). I think my passing should be a lot better… 93 {overall rating} last year, so how did I go down?”

The five-time All-Star averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from behind the 3-point line in 71 games last season. Perhaps his struggles in the latter part of the Celtics’ opening-round playoff series versus the Sixers hurt him in the 2K ratings, but Brown’s impact was definitely felt by those who watched him closely.

Now, he will have to work even harder to earn a large share of the spotlight. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are established Philly pillars, LeBron James is one of the greatest players of all-time and VJ Edgecombe is already a game-changer at 21 years of age. But Jaylen Brown is a balanced threat who boasts championship experience and is still in his basketball prime.

Once he gets comfortable in this loaded 76ers offense, which admittedly could take some time, No. 7 will have a solid opportunity to boost his numbers in 2K.
