Dream’s Angel Reese joins just 2 others in WNBA history with perfect night vs. Sparks

There is one consistent statistic that has kept Angel Reese out of the elite wing in the WNBA to this point of her young career: shooting efficiency. The third-year forward and Atlanta Dream star continues to be one of the best rebounders the league has ever seen, but she is shooting 41.9 percent from the field this season. This mark will likely cost her votes in the award races and could be an issue in the playoffs. She has plenty of time to allay those fears, however. In fact, that mission is already underway. Reese just ventured into territory that is rarely explored.

The three-time All-Star scored 20 points on 100 percent shooting and also totaled 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in Atlanta’s 124-88 annihilation of the Los Angeles Sparks. Reese addressed her biggest weakness, and in doing so, she becomes only the third WNBA player to post a 20-point double-double on perfect shooting, according to the ESPN Insights X account. And she did it on the road.

The two-time rebounding queen was spectacular in Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night. Despite committing five turnovers, she dominated her competition on both ends of the floor. The Sparks were the right opponent, to be clear, — have been eliminated from playoff contention after losing six in a row — but upper-echelon talents find ways to stifle inferior squads.

Angel Reese has now produced consecutive 20-point double-doubles while also recording at least three steals. The first of those stellar outings came against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, and it was also on the road. No. 5 is soaring, and so are the Dream.

Atlanta (23-13) is only a half-game behind the Indiana Fever for fourth place in the WNBA standings. Reese and company take their
West Coast tour of excellence to The Desert for a Saturday showdown with the Phoenix Mercury (13-23).
