[WATCH] WDPL 2026: Medhavi Bidhuri's '67' celebration goes viral after dismissing Nishika Singh in season opener
A moment from the Women's Delhi Premier League 2026 season opener spread quickly across social media on August 20, 2026. Central Delhi Queens leg-spinner Medhavi Bidhuri performed the '67' celebration after taking her second wicket of the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, and the clip drew widespread attention from cricket fans online.
The dismissal arrived on the fifth ball of the 16th over. Bidhuri bowled a fuller delivery to South Delhi Superstarz batter Nishika Singh, who hit the ball towards mid-wicket. Arushi Goel, a Central Delhi Queens squad member, completed a diving catch, jumping forward to take the ball cleanly. Bidhuri immediately broke into the '67' celebration, which was captured on camera and shared widely.
Nishika Singh led the scoring
Nishika Singh had contributed 50 off 41 balls for South Delhi Superstarz, hitting eight fours during her innings. Batting first, South Delhi Superstarz posted 156/5 in their 20 overs, with Nishika Singh and Tanisha Singh both recording half-centuries to anchor the total. South Delhi Superstarz are the defending champions of the WDPL, and they began their title defence in the tournament's third season.
Bidhuri finished with figures of 2/24 for Central Delhi Queens. Sumiti Soni was the most economical bowler in the Central Delhi Queens attack, returning 2/13 in four overs. Despite the efforts of both bowlers, South Delhi Superstarz's total of 156/5 proved difficult to chase.
Central Delhi Queens' chase falls short
Chasing 157, Central Delhi Queens lost three wickets quickly and were reduced to 31/3. Monika and Nidhi Mahto then added 65 runs for the fourth wicket to keep the chase alive. Monika was dismissed for 30 off 19 balls, and Mahto followed for 63 off 55 balls. Central Delhi Queens were eventually bowled out for 127/7 in 20 overs, handing South Delhi Superstarz a 29-run victory in the opening match.
The WDPL 2026 runs from August 20 to September 2, 2026, with all 13 matches, including the final, scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
