Miami football beats LSU, SMU, Texas for 4-star DL
The Miami (FL) football program is picking up another top recruit. Four-star defensive lineman Demarco Jenkins has committed to the Hurricanes, per Rivals. Jenkins had several offers from power 4 programs.
“The 6’3 305 DL from Pearland, TX chose the Hurricanes over LSU, SMU, and Texas,” Hayes Fawcett posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Jenkins is a member of the Class of 2027. He was very impressed by Miami’s defensive philosophy, and that was a huge factor in his decision.
“The most exciting thing about the fit is how aggressive they are up front, especially coming from a 3-3 stack, having that four-man front,” Jenkins said to Rivals. “The defense would be great for me.”
Miami now has 16 players in the 2027 class, Rivals reported, following Jenkins’ pledge. Jenkins is highly regarded by many national football recruiting services.
“At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, Jenkins is ranked as the No. 41 defensive lineman and No. 378 overall recruit nationally, per the Rivals Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect in the state of Texas this cycle,” On3 reported.
Jenkins recently visited Miami. Before his commitment to the Hurricanes, SMU was considered the leader for the defensive lineman.
Miami is once again a national power in college football. The Hurricanes reached the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship game. Even though the Hurricanes slipped in the CFP with the final at-large bid among power 4 schools, Miami went on an impressive run before losing to Indiana.
Miami fans have big expectations heading into the 2026 season. The Hurricanes are led by head coach Mario Cristobal.
The Hurricanes open the 2026 football season with a game against Stanford. That game is scheduled for September 4.
