Mets’ Steve Cohen breaks silence on Carlos Mendoza firing

The New York Mets will be going in a different direction for the remainder of the season, as they recently fired manager Carlos Mendoza. Things have not gone well for the Mets this season, and it was time to make a decision following their sixth straight loss, making them 34-47 and last place in the NL East.

After Mendoza was fired, Steve Cohen made a statement about the manager and why they decided to make the move.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Carlos Mendoza for his leadership and unwavering commitment. He represented this organization with integrity and dedication throughout, and I wish him and his family all the best. Our commitment to bringing our fans a championship-caliber team has not changed. There is no sugar coating it: this season has been a disappointment and our fans deserve better than what we’ve delivered,” Cohen said.

The next person who could be on their way out is David Stearns, but MLB insider Ken Rosenthal doesn’t know if Cohen will be quick to fire him.

“Clearly, Stearns has had two years of poor decisions in many cases… and at the same time, Steve Cohen waited two years to get David Stearns… I don’t expect Steve Cohen is going to be too quick to fire David Stearns when all the reasons he wanted him, the good things that happened in Milwaukee, still are a part of his history… he’s a smart guy… the sport is not exactly teeming with GM types,” Rosenthal said on Foul Territory TV.

If the Mets believe that they could get out of their slump and make a run this season, making more changes sooner rather than later would be ideal.
