Mets’ Juan Soto takes step forward in calf injury recovery
With the Mets’ biggest star in Juan Soto dealing with a calf injury, there is no denying that the offense has stumbled with him off the field, though it appears he’s making a recovery that’s trending positively. As Soto is “irreplaceable” for the Mets, as Francisco Lindor noted, the latest video from the injured star could excite fans for an incoming return.
While New York is currently in the midst of a series against the Athletics, Soto was seen before Saturday’s game on the field throwing some baseballs and playing catch. This could be a sign that Soto’s recovery from the calf injury, as he was placed on the team’s injured list, is progressing nicely.

He was off to a good start to the 2026 campaign, as through eight games, Soto was batting a .355 average to go along with one home run and five RBIs.
A possible timetable for Juan Soto’s return to the Mets
In terms of when a return can come for Soto and the Mets, the latest reporting from Tim Britton of The Athletic suggests in the team’s next homestand on April 21, when they host the Minnesota Twins.
“President of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday the club is optimistic it will not be a long-term absence for Soto,” Britton wrote. “The initial timetable provided by the team indicated Soto could be back for the start of the next homestand on April 21.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Soto returns, but as said earlier, Lindor wouldn’t hold back on the star’s impact and the message he has for the New York players that could be doing too much while at the plate.
“Soto is irreplaceable, he’s one of the best hitters in the game, but guys understand that we got to get it done,” Lindor said, via SNY. “You know, this is real professionals, and we have to get it done. That’s what it comes down to, you know?”
The Mets are 7-7 ahead of Saturday’s game against the Athletics, with the team looking to keep the ship afloat until Soto comes back.
