Mets hoping OG Anunoby’s Knicks championship vibes will turn around season

On Sunday afternoon, the New York Mets will hit the field for their series finale against the divisional rival Philadelphia Phillies at home. The Mets are hoping to bounce back after losing seven out of their last eight games.

In attendance for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia was New York Knicks star OG Anunoby, who was recently crowned as an NBA champion when his team knocked off the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals.

Anunoby was seen exchanging pleasantries with some Mets players, including superstar Juan Soto, as well as greeting fans in the seats at Citi Field. Anunoby made one of the more remarkable plays in Knicks history a couple of weeks ago when he tipped in a missed shot from Jalen Brunson in Game 4 of the Finals to win it for New York, and was arguably the most consistent player for the Knicks during their march to the title this year.

The Mets will hope that some of Anunoby’s success will rub off on them, as the team has suffered through a disastrous 2026 MLB season thus far. The Mets currently sit at 35-48 on the campaign, well below where fans and pundits thought they would be in a season that they entered with legit championship expectations after signing Bo Bichette in free agency.

While the Knicks held up their end of the bargain, it seems that may be the only championship that New York sports fans get their hands on for some time, especially considering that the Mets are already past the halfway point of their season, with no signs of turning things around anytime soon.
