Chargers OC Mike McDaniel’s ‘hungry’ claim will get fans fired up

After a four-year stint as Miami Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel is now offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. He believes both he and the team are on the same page entering 2026.

McDaniel will have a chip on his shoulder after getting fired. The Chargers will too as they’ve been continuously hampered by postseason speedbumps. All-in-all, everyone involved in the organization is trying to reach new heights, via Jourdan Rodrigue of the Athletic.

“This team is really hungry. I’m not sure if the team is hungrier than I am, or vice-versa,” McDaniel said. “It was a great fit in that way. There was a lot of ambition moving forward. This group of people has a great chance to be there very best versions of themselves. The best players on this team are elite human beings.”

The Chargers have made the playoffs three of the last four seasons. But every time, they were ousted in the Wild Card Round. Los Angeles isn’t satisfied just making the dance. They want to be the belle of the ball.

McDaniel is now here to help ensure their offense takes a step forward. The Chargers have plenty of talented of pieces in the unit, spearheaded by quarterback Justin Herbert. They finished 12th in total offense in 2025 (333.8 yards per game), which isn’t anything to sneeze at. But McDaniel and Los Angeles wants more.

For the offensive coordinator, his mission comes on two fronts. For starters, he clearly wants to make the Chargers a better team. Furthermore, he wants to prove he is still the offensive wizard that got him a head coaching job in the first place. On the same wavelength, with the same goal, McDaniel and the Chargers now move as one.
