Jets’ David Bailey absolutely cooks Luke Goedeke in first practice rep after day of fights

On Wednesday, the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued their week of joint practices. On Tuesday, the two teams engaged in multiple scrimmages, with Luke Goedeke of the Bucs throwing the helmet of a Jets player.

On Tuesday, David Bailey called out Goedeke for a one-on-one rep, and Goedeke won the rep. This led to Goedeke and Bailey getting into a scuffle. The two got into it again during the full team sessions. The two went against each other again on Wednesday, and Bailey got his revenge, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.

“David Bailey opened practice by destroying Luke Goedeke on a spin move in one on ones,” Rosenblatt posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The solid day for Bailey did not end there. Bailey had a quick stack of Baker Mayfield in an 11-on-11 play. He would add another sack of Mayfield later, which led to some trash talk.

“Baker Mayfield and David Bailey talking smack to each other after a play. Mayfield it seemed like didn’t take kindly to Bailey touching him,” Rosenblatt added.

Bailey was selected with the second overall selection of the Jets in the 2026 NFL Draft after being named Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and a Unanimous All-American in 2025 at Texas Tech. He was dominant in 2025, racking up 52 tackles, with 19.5 tackles for a loss, and 14.5 sacks.

While there was no fight from Bailey on Wednesday, the Jets and Bucs got into another brawl during the latest joint practice. They will face each other in a preseason game on Friday.
