Jets’ announcement on Qwan’tez Stiggers’ hospital trip after scary collapse brings sigh of relief
The New York Jets are conducting joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into the preseason matchup on Friday. Unfortunately, Qwan’tez Stiggers collapsed during Tuesday’s practice and was rushed to the hospital. New York shared good news about the situation on Wednesday.
Stiggers was released from the hospital later on Tuesday and was sent home to recover after losing consciousness during practice, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. The Jets ensured that Qwan’tez Stiggers was sent home to recover from the scary collapse.
“The Jets have announced that Stiggers was released from the hospital and is home recovering,” Smith wrote.
At first, it was not entirely clear what led to the collapse. But on Wednesday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that the 24-year-old cornerback suffered some kind of head injury during the joint practice. Glenn claimed that Stiggers officially entered concussion protocol on Wednesday, according to beat writer Dennis Waszak Jr.
“Update: Aaron Glenn says that Stiggers is in the concussion protocol today and he should be fine,” Waszak reported.
With Stiggers in concussion protocol, the Jets can breathe a sigh of relief. The former fifth-round pick won’t return to action until after he passes concussion protocol. The timeline for recovery is different for every player, so it’s not entirely clear when he may return.
Qwan’tez Stiggers is entering his third season in the NFL. He appeared in 15 games for the Jets last season, starting in four. It was the most productive campaign so far in his early career, as Stiggers recorded 27 combined tackles (17 solo), three pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries.
