Mets’ Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Jr get injury updates ahead of Tigers series
If the New York Mets are going to turn things around, Francisco Lindor and Luis Robert Jr will need to play pivotal roles in the lineup. However, they can’t do that as long as they are on the shelf.
Based on their latest update, both players seem poised to remain on the injured list a little longer. Lindor is set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday or Thursday, which will give the Mets a better outlook. Robert’s return though is currently murky at best, via Joe Pantorno of amNewYork.
“Luis Robert Jr. is not progressing the way the Mets want to, and he’s still feeling discomfort in his lower back,” Pantorno wrote.
Robert has been out since the end of April with his back injury. With no timeline yet to return, the Mets have turned to top prospect AJ Ewing. They will be continuing to monitor Robert and his back injury, but not much will be known until he is able return to baseball activities.
Lindor was given a three-week time table back on April 25 after suffering his calf injury. With his MRI actually scheduled, New York will have a much better understanding of how to proceed forward. At the very least, the Mets will want to see that his calf is healing as expected.
At just 15-25, New York is going to need to find their footing sooner rather than later if they want to be in the playoff hunt. While the Mets want Robert and Lindor to push them further towards that goal, they must first get over their respective injuries.
