MCollin Morikawa reveals troubling back injury update ahead of Masters

One of the big names to watch out for in the upcoming Masters Tournament is world No. 7 Collin Morikawa, who is still looking for his first title in Augusta.

Morikawa, however, is still nursing a back injury and is considered day-to-day. He suffered it in the opening round of the Players Championship last month.

While he has been trying to regain his form, saying he has been hitting balls for the past week, Morikawa admitted to Golfweek’s Cameron Jourdan that he is still not in optimal shape.

“The honest truth is I’m taking it day by day. It’s not exactly where I want to be, and it’s unfortunate, but that’s just the body, and I can’t push it. It’s been a little bit of a mental battle, just trying to trust where it’s at. The back actually feels fine. It’s just other parts of the body not cooperating a little bit how I want,” said Morikawa.

Morikawa’s highest finish in the Masters was a tie for third place in 2024. Last year, he ended up tied for 14th place.

The two-time major champion acknowledged that he cannot simply enter the Masters and hope for the best. He knows he has to be fully healed before stepping on the green and competing with top-tier talent.

“There’s a comfort level, and this isn’t a place you want to be uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to find other ways to get around the gold course, making a different game plan,” added Morikawa.

He last won a major title in 2021 in The Open Championship.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner ruled the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.
