49ers’ Brock Purdy explains how he plans to use secret weapon this season

The San Francisco 49ers will be taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in their second preseason game, and it looks like some of the starters will get some playing time. That means Brock Purdy can get his feet wet and see how he can continue to build chemistry with the offense.

Heading into this season, Purdy wants to be able to use every skill he has to his advantage, even if it’s not the biggest advantage. He’s been known as more of a pocket passer, but he wants to start using his legs more, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“I’m never going to be a 4.4 guy, 4.5 guy,” Purdy said. “The thing I pride myself on is moving quickly, moving the chains when I need 10, 12 yards. I think I can add that for our offense, for sure. Not looking for that kind of stuff, but being able to fall back when those moments happen, like, ‘alright dude, I have the legs to do this, the mobility to do this, the athleticism.’…As I get older, I want to maintain that.”

Purdy knows he’s not the fastest player on the field, but his mobility can change a lot for their offense and open up more opportunities. It doesn’t sound like something he plans on doing a lot, but there’s a difference when you can pick up a third and short with your legs.

The 49ers are expected to be a competitive team once again this season, and the hope is that they can stay healthy. Even with all the injuries they dealt with on both sides of the ball, they were still able to make the playoffs and win a game.

Now, with most of their players returning at full health, it’ll be interesting to see how far they can go this season.
