Maple Leafs’ Joseph Woll vocal on ‘scary’ Anthony Stolarz injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs are officially eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After a brutal season that resulted in Brad Treliving being fired as general manager, there are only a few games remaining. Unfortunately, the team may have lost goaltender Anthony Stolarz for the remainder of the season.

Stolarz got the start on Wednesday against the Washington Capitals. However, he suffered an injury during the first period after attempting to make a kick save. Joseph Woll replaced Stolarz and finished the game.

After the game, Woll spoke about witnessing the injury, as well as his mindset in replacing his injured teammate. He also mentioned that he has checked on Stolarz, but did not disclose any specifics about the injury.

“It didn’t look great,” Woll said, via NHL.com. “Honestly the first things is worried for him and then get ready to go. It was kind of scary seeing him go down like that. He’s a pretty tough dude so if he goes down, it’s tough to see. I checked in on him, seems like he’s doing all right. I don’t know the extent of the injury; it’s not for me to say.”

Woll allowed three goals on 14 shots in relief of Stolarz. The Maple Leafs are last in the Atlantic Division, tied on points with the Florida Panthers. Both teams are eliminated from postseason contention and are 14 points back of the sixth-placed Detroit Red Wings.

The Maple Leafs are hoping for positive news on Stolarz’s health. With so few games remaining, though, this could have been his final appearance of the season. Toronto will return to the ice on Thursday when they take on Matthew Schaefer and the New York Islanders.
