Major New York franchise in ‘advanced talks’ over relocation to new $780 million stadium in 2028
Gotham FC is reportedly exploring a move to NYCFC’s state-of-the-art new home in Queens.
The NWSL powerhouse has shared Sports Illustrated Stadium with the MLS‘ Red Bulls since 2021.

But Sportico claims bosses are in ‘advanced talks’ over relocating around 20 miles across the Hudson River .
NYCFC owners are financing a $780 million arena near Citi Field, which is due to open in 2027.
Gotham is strongly considering moving in for the 2028 NWSL season, but no decision has been reached, per the report.
“Like many clubs, especially in the NWSL as the league rapidly grows, we regularly evaluate options to best support our players, supporters and organization,” Gotham responded to Sportico. “We don’t have any updates to share right now.”
Sports Illustrated Stadium can hold 25,000 fans and the upcoming Etihad Stadium will be around the same size.
Gotham would leave New Jersey for Queens, which could have a major impact on fans but would open doors to a fanbase living in nearby neighborhoods.
The franchise has been pushing to sell more seats, with offers on season ticket memberships.
Valued at $175 million, it ranks seventh in the league and has averaged around 8,000 fans at games over the last three seasons.
Etihad Park offers luxury experience
Previously branded NJ/NY Gotham, Citi Field is hosting a game against the Washington Spirit on July 15 to explore the market in Queens.
It may seem strange to change to a venue with the same number of seats, but Etihad Park will boast the luxury offering that is currently in vogue.

Sports Illustrated Stadium was opened in 2010, but has already fallen behind in a nationwide arms race for high-end offerings.
NYCFC’s new stadium promises a ‘redefined premium experience’ with exclusive food and drink options, luxury VIP seating, skyline ‘loft’ lounges and exclusive pitch-side seating.
Execs have teased ‘Gatsby Seating’ and an all-inclusive luxury experience where visitors will sit directly next to the player benches after eating at The Tunnel Club, which offers a view of the teams as they walk out from the locker rooms.
NYCFC CEO Brad Sims has promised a fierce atmosphere for visiting teams.
“It’s great to see what we’ve achieved and the future of how incredible our home field advantage is,” he claimed.
“I feel bad for our opponents from 2027 and beyond and what they will experience.
“This will be the tightest, loudest and best fan experience and the marquee place to host football matches.”
