West Ham hold talks with Premier League club over selling £25m-rated star just days before Championship starts

Aston Villa have held talks over the signing of West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, talkSPORT understands.

The DR Congo international is one of several right-back targets being considered by the Premier League club.

Villa are keen to provide greater competition for Matty Cash ahead of the new season.

Cash and Kosta Nedeljkovic are currently their only recognised senior options in the position.

Nedeljkovic, however, has made just 10 first-team appearances since joining Villa in 2024.

The 20-year-old, who is fresh from an 18-month loan spell at RB Leipzig, is attracting interest from elsewhere this summer.

Meanwhile, Villa’s previous interest in former Tottenham Hotspur full-back Emerson Royal failed to materialise into a completed signing.

The Europa League winners are also set to bolster their options at left-back.

Atletico Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri is closing in on a move to Villa Park worth around £17million.

Although personal terms have not yet been agreed, he is understood to be keen on joining the club.

It follows Lucas Digne’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend.

Wan-Bissaka future

Wan-Bissaka is now the latest player being considered by Unai Emery’s side, following previous interest from Everton.

The 28-year-old is valued at £25million by the Hammers following their relegation last season.

His current deal expires in 2031, with Wan-Bissaka having joined West Ham from Manchester United for £15million two years ago.

He made 25 Premier League appearances for the club last term but was unable to help them to safety.

Wan-Bissaka subsequently starred for DR Congo at the World Cup, where they reached the last 32 before losing to England.

Overall, he has made 233 top-flight appearances for United, West Ham and Crystal Palace during his career.

Villa’s talks with the Hammers come just days before the start of the new Championship season.
