Magic Johnson reveals how Pistons can win series vs. Cavs

Just when it seemed like the backs of the Detroit Pistons were against the wall after they lost Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they stepped up when it mattered most.

The Pistons have forced a second consecutive Game 7 thanks to an incredible performance off the bench from Paul Reed, who scored 17 points as part of Detroit’s 115-94 victory over the Cavaliers at Rocket Arena. Once again for the Pistons, who outlasted the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, it will all come down to one game that determines if their season extends or comes to a close.

NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, who played college ball at Michigan State University about 90 minutes outside of Detroit, took to social media to explain that if Detroit continues getting solid production from their bench players, they’ll ultimately come out on top in the series.

“The Pistons win tonight was all about their bench who dominated, led by Paul Reed’s 17 points and Daniss Jenkins’ 15 points!” Johnson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “They also got a good game out of Duncan Robinson who scored 14 points tonight after missing Game 5. If they continue to play this way they will win the series!”

In addition to Reed’s 17 points off the bench, the Pistons also got 14 points from Duncan Robinson. They were led by 21 points from Cade Cunningham, while Jalen Duren and Daniss Jenkins each scored 15.

Game 7 between the Pistons and Cavaliers is scheduled for Sunday evening in Detroit, with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
