A decade on from winning the Premier League in astonishing fashion, Leicester City are starting their their 2026/27 season in the third tier of English football after suffering back to back relegations.

They are taking on a team that have been rattling around League Two and the National League since they won the top-flight in 2016.

Leicester will be hoping for a straightforward season so they can bounce straight back up, but given the issues at the club it could be another long slog for them.

Mavididi back on the scoresheet

Leicester have got an interesting side to face League One this season, and one of those is Stephy Mavididi, who scored 12 in 46 appearances in the 2023/24 season in the Championship.

Unsurprisingly, in their relegation season last campaign he didn’t go close to that tally of just three goals in 42 appearances, but stepping down into League One might be the kickstart he needs to start seeing more goals, especially against a side that was in League Two last season.

Cordova-Reid to thrive

Bobby De Cordova-Reid was a Premier League player in 2025 and he along with Leicester have suffered back to back relegations.

That said, he’s still with the team and could also be another player to thrive now.

Jodi Jones for Notts County has been a vital player for Notts County and in his career has hit 27 goals in 154 appearances in League Two, but in League One he’s struggled previously with 53 appearances and only two goals.

That was for the majority in 2016/17 season with Coventry and could be back firing with this Notts County squad.

Leicester are facing battles on and off the pitch, with King Power now looking to sell the club.
