Lynx make pair of roster moves amid excellent season

The Minnesota Lynx are on top of the WNBA standings with the playoffs finally in view. Minnesota is 31-9 on the season with just four games left before the postseason. The Lynx just made a smart roster move to bolster their depth before making another run at the WNBA Finals.

The Lynx announced on Monday that they have signed guard Aari McDonald, per ESPN’s Kareem Copeland. In a corresponding move, Minnesota waived guard Eliška Joklová.

McDonald was a key bench player for the Fever during the 2025 season. Unfortunately, she suffered a season-ending foot injury in August of 2025. The next time that McDonald took to the court was during the past Unrivaled season. McDonald only appeared in one Unrivaled game before suffering a “right lower extremity injury” that knocked her out for the rest of the season.

Now McDonald is seven months into her recovery and is clearly healthy enough to grab the attention of WNBA teams. If McDonald really is healthy enough to play, she could be a great addition for Minnesota.

The former first-round pick played in 20 games for Indiana in 2025, starting 13 of them. She averaged 9.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game on an average of 26.3 minutes. McDonald is a tenacious defender, despite her diminutive size, and is a threat to score from anywhere on the court too.

Minnesota already has the number one seed in the playoffs locked up. As a result, the Lynx could choose to give McDonald some minutes over the next four games to get her battle tested.

It will be fascinating to see how Minnesota deploys McDonald throughout the rest of the 2026 season.
