Braves make Bryce Elder injury move that could revert in a week
The Atlanta Braves have made a few moves to start the week as they manage an injury to Bryce Elder that he’s been dealing with for some time. Bryce Elder has a knee issue, and it won’t be until another week before he plays, which is when they play the Chicago Cubs.
“Starting today, says Walt Weiss, Bryce Elder will move to the bullpen temporarily and could start during the Cubs series Sept. 14-16,” Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
For now, the Braves seem to know what pitchers they’ll have available this week, so Elder can continue to do what he needs to in order to get healthy.
“Elder’s knee is still bothering him. So, he won’t make another start for at least another week. He’ll be available out of the bullpen. Smith-Shawver, Lopez and Perez will start against the Rays. Sale will start against the Phillies on Friday and Mahle will likely go Saturday,” Mark Bowman of MLB.com wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Elder has been troubled by the knee injury since his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in August. The good news is that the injury isn’t bad to the point where he has to go on the injured list.
The Braves are hoping that Elder can get right before the start of the playoffs, as he’ll be an important part of their rotation. For now, the best thing they can do is manage his pitch and innings count, and that should help with his recovery.
