Pat Murphy’s 2-word truth bomb on Brewers’ surprising success vs. Pete Crow-Armstrong

The Milwaukee Brewers begin a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Monday. It should be a fun matchup, as both teams are at the top of the NL Central standings. While Cubs fans are expecting big things from Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Brewers have had his number this year. But even Pat Murphy seems surprised by that news.

When informed that the NL MVP candidate owns a .108 batting average against Milwaukee, Murphy could only utter two words to describe how his team is mastering Crow-Armstrong, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. It all boils down to luck.

“PCA is 4 for 37 (.108) with a 42 percent K rate against Mil this year,” Rogers reported. “He’s hitting .292 against everyone else. Pat Murphy was asked about their success against him: ‘We’re lucky.'”

It’s rather impressive that the Brewers have kept the 24-year-old outfielder at bay. He’s in the middle of a breakout year, leading the league in WAR (8.7) and runs (106). Meanwhile, Pete Crow-Armstrong leads the NL in slugging percentage (.572) and OPS (.946). Through 554 at-bats this season, the Cubs star has totaled 155 hits, 40 home runs, and 96 RBIs, all of which are career-highs.

Although Pat Murphy attributes luck as the reason for the Brewers’ success against Crow-Armstrong, and that very well may play a part, Milwaukee does have an excellent pitching group. The starting rotation is led by Jacob Misiorowski, who looks like a legitimate Cy Young candidate. Behind him, are Kyle Harrison and Logan Henderson, who are having career years.

This upcoming three-game series will be the final time the Brewers and Cubs face off against one another in the regular season. If Crow-Armstrong fails to finally get the better of Milwaukee, he won’t have another opportunity again this year unless these two teams meet in the playoffs.
