Key Timberwolves bench player may miss do-or-die Game 6 vs. Spurs

The Minnesota Timberwolves come into Game 6 of their Western Conference Semifinals series against the San Antonio Spurs on the verge of elimination. The Timberwolves need a win to stay alive and extend the series to a decisive Game 7, and it’s possible they are short-handed again as Terrence Shannon Jr. appeared on the injury report.

Terrence Shannon Jr. is officially listed as questionable on the Timberwolves’ injury report ahead of Friday’s Game 6 against the Spurs, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel. He is listed as dealing with a head contusion. He was a late addition to the injury report, and he’s been a key player off the bench for the Wolves throughout the playoffs thus far.

The second-year forward didn’t play much during his rookie season in 2024-25, appearing in nine playoff games last year but at only a little over six minutes per game. This year, Shannon’s minutes in the postseason have jumped to a little over 22 per game.

Shannon is averaging a playoff career-high 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists with splits of 38 percent shooting from the field, 24.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 90 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Although his shooting efficiency hasn’t been great, he’s earned the trust of Wolves head coach Chris Finch.

The No. 27 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, he shot well during the regular season with marks of 45 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from the 3-point line.

The Wolves are already short-handed for the rest of the postseason following Donte DiVincenzo’s Achilles injury during the opening round of the playoffs.
