Key spot protecting Josh Allen looms as biggest Bills training camp battle to watch

After losing David Edwards in free agency, the Buffalo Bills must replace the left guard, making that position the biggest training camp battle in the organization. As Josh Allen and company get ready for the season at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY, Austin Corbett, Alec Anderson, and others are competing to be the fifth piece on the Bills’ 2026 offensive line.

“Bills general manager Brandon Beane emphasized the importance of this competition on the first day of camp, saying ‘[left guard is] a premium spot that we need to make sure we’re good there. The No. 1 thing is to protect No. 17 [quarterback Josh Allen],'” ESPN Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg writes. “Veteran free agent addition Austin Corbett remains in the lead for the open spot on the line, but he is competing with Alec Anderson, who has experience with the offense. Anderson, 26, has served as a sixth lineman and backup in his two full seasons on the 53-man roster, and Corbett, 30, has started 78 games in his career.”

While this Bills’ left guard training camp battle is primarily between Corbett and Anderson, there are also two rookies in the mix. Fourth-round pick Jude Bowry and seventh-round selection Ar’maj Reed-Adams can both play guard and could be darkhorses in this competition as camp goes on.

The Bills’ O-line has been incredibly consistent the last two seasons. The last time Buffalo had to replace a starter on the line was in the 2024 offseason when Connor McGovern slid over from center to guard, and Edwards replaced McGovern.
