Andrew Friedman willing to bet Shohei Ohtani pitches again this season

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for a shot at a World Series 3-peat. At the same time, Shohei Ohtani is battling a late-season knee injury. It’s gotten so bad that he was taken off the pitching rotation indefinitely.

As a result, drastically complicates his chances at winning a fourth NL MVP Award. While the Dodgers are surging at 69-43 in the National League West, Ohtani’s future on the mound remains in doubt.

However, Dodgers’ President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman is confident that Ohtani will return to the rotation, per Katie Woo of The Athletic, so much so that he is willing to bet on it.

“We’re as confident as we can be that (Ohtani) is going to be back and he’s gonna start throwing soon and building back up,” Friedman said. “You can never perfectly predict the future but if you said, ‘Hey, place a bet on it,’ I would be very confident placing it that he would be back pitching.”

Currently, Ohtani is at the point where he is slowly working to get back into the pitching rotation all well before he is slated to make any full starts.

The last time Ohtani was on the mound was July 3 against the San Diego Padres. He pitched seven innings, struck out nine, gave up seven hits and three runs. In the end, the Dodgers won 4-3.

Additionally, Ohtani is batting .292 with 114 hits, 24 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 70 runs scored.

The Dodgers are beginning a three-game road series against the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
