Steelers’ 1st-round tackle gets rave reviews during first training camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently taking part in training camp as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Steelers are hoping that new head coach Mike McCarthy will help the team get off the Wild Card exit carousel that has defined them for the past few years.

Recently, Steelers veteran Mason McCormick had high praise for rookie first-round draft pick and projected starting offensive tackle Max Iheanachor.

“He’s done a tremendous job. I think he’s got a good base about him. He’s a big, strong kid, and he’s eager to get better, which is a big thing,” said McCormick, per Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on X, formerly Twitter.

Iheanachor was selected by the Steelers with the number 21 overall pick this year out of Arizona State, having spent three seasons there in college. The offensive line has typically been a stronger unit for the Steelers over the years, and they will need to continue that trend this season with Aaron Rodgers once again under center.

Rodgers announced that the upcoming season will be the last in his future Hall of Fame career, and at the age of 42, keeping the former league MVP upright and with time in the pocket will be of paramount importance for Pittsburgh’s offensive line.

The hope is that the reunion of Rodgers and McCarthy will reinvigorate the Steelers’ offense, which had become somewhat of a predictable slog over the last few years, and offensive line play is arguably the most important factor on the field in that department.

In any case, the Steelers have just a few more weeks of preparation remaining before they kick off their 2026 season on September 13 at home against the Atlanta Falcons.
