49ers’ Mike Evans not practicing Monday due to quad strain
The San Francisco 49ers are currently in the middle of training camp as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The 49ers made some big moves this offseason, headlined by the free agent signing of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.
However, on Monday, the team got a tough injury update regarding Evans at training camp.
“49ers WR Mike Evans is not practicing today due to a quad strain,” reported ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, formerly Twitter.
At this point, it’s unclear when exactly the strain took place or how long Evans might be out of the lineup for, but it’s certainly not an encouraging update as the season quickly approaches.
Evans has been very durable throughout his future Hall of Fame career, although injuries have started to pile up over the last few seasons, including missing a big chunk of last year with Tampa Bay due to a broken collarbone.
At the age of 32, and 33 by the time the season starts, it’s unclear just how much Evans has left in the tank, but he still profiles as an elite deep-ball threat who can jump over most any cornerback and has elite hands at his disposal.
The 49ers will need all the help they can get this year at the wide receiver position, especially after the recent news that Ricky Pearsall will be out for the year due to an injury that lingered from last year and throughout the offseason.
The 49ers are set to kick off their new season on September 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.
