Kendrick Perkins wants ‘somebody’ from Warriors fired over Jonathan Kuminga
There must be some very complicated feelings swirling around in the Bay Area at the moment as they’re witnessing Jonathan Kuminga seemingly start to figure it out after getting a change of scenery in the form of a midseason trade to the Atlanta Hawks. The Golden State Warriors and Kuminga had reached a point of no return, with head coach Steve Kerr lamenting Kuminga’s iffy fit on the roster, while the latter has been itching to get an opportunity to break out, preferably on another team.
Kuminga has been a revelation for the Hawks through the first four games of their 2026 NBA playoffs first-round clash against the New York Knicks. Head coach Quin Snyder has him as the first man to come off the bench, and he even entrusts Kuminga with the responsibility to guard Karl-Anthony Towns for extended stretches.
Game 4 was a bit of a rough one for Kuminga, as he only scored 10 points on 3-10 shooting from the field in a blowout defeat. But he’s still averaging 14.5 points per game and playing solid defense for a Hawks team in the middle of a 2-2 slugfest of a series against the Knicks, and now, noted pundit Kendrick Perkins is calling out the Warriors for failing to integrate Kuminga to this degree.
“He didn’t want to see it. He was in denial, but Steph Curry saw it. Draymond Green saw it. Jimmy Butler saw it. But you didn’t it? A guy that you drafted In the lottery, a guy that has shown you time and time again, every single year, his points per game went up, but you chose Podziemski over Jonathan Kuminga, a man that helped you in the NBA Finals at times when you won your fourth championships?” Perkins said on the latest episode of Perk Unplugged.
“That’s one of the most athletic, versatile, and his ceiling is through the roof. Now all off a sudden he’s sitting and he’s shining on the biggest stage. Somebody from Golden State needs to be fired.”
