Jordan Staal credits Hurricanes fans for historic Game 2 comeback

The Carolina Hurricanes won Game 2 over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night. And it was a huge moment for Jordan Staal and his teammates. Staal scored a power-play goal to aid in the effort. However, he pointed to those in the building who weren’t on the ice as a major reason his team came out on top.

“It’s a tough building to play in when (the fans) get going like that, and the boys started to feel pretty good about themselves. I’m just proud of the group for staying with it, being patient, and finding a way,” the Hurricanes captain said, via team reporter Walt Ruff.

Carolina fans certainly deserve some credit for remaining loud despite the circumstances. The Canes fell behind 2-0 early in this contest, as Brett Howden scored twice for the Golden Knights. In the third period, however, everything changes.

Logan Stankoven scored to make it a 2-1 contest. Later on, unlikely scorer Mark Jankowski scored to tie the game 2-2. Staal then deflected a Shayne Gostisbehere shot on the power play to give Carolina its first lead.

Unfortunately, they were not able to close out the win in regulation. Vegas captain Mark Stone scored with 95 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. There, Seth Jarvis scored his third of the postseason on a one-time blast to secure the all-important Game 2 win.

The Hurricanes have a lot of momentum going their way heading into the next contest. At the same time, they are headed into hostile territory for the next few games. Carolina and Vegas will take the ice in Sin City on Saturday night for Game 3.
