Mets’ Nick Morabito drops perfect reaction to 1st MLB hit

The New York Mets completed an upset against the Tampa Bay Rays in the most improbable fashion. Considered as heavy underdogs against one of the top teams in the American League, New York went on an insane streak against Tampa Bay. They scored a whopping 10 runs against the AL East powerhouse while limiting their opponents to just four runs, leading to an easy victory.

Along the way, one of the Mets’ rookies achieved a personal goal of his. Rookie Nick Morabito finally got his first hit in the majors, and it came at a crucial point in the game. Subbed in as a pinch runner in the game, Morabito hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning to extend the Mets’ lead even further. That was Morabito’s first hit in the majors, coming after 13 at-bats and 3 months after his major league debut.

After the game, Morabito was naturally asked about how he felt after getting his first career hit. The Mets outfielder admitted that he felt some pressure on himself to finally get that first hit. Now that it’s out of the way, Morabito can breathe a little easier.

“I would be lying if I say it wasn’t at all. It was. I’m glad I got it out of the way.”

Morabito capped off the best night of his young career so far with another hit in the ninth inning. Before that he, he also recorded a diving catch in the eighth that prevented the Rays from generating any momentum heading into the final inning. It was an incredible night for both Morabito and the Mets, who finally caught a break after struggling for most of the season.

The Mets currently sit at a 63-77 record, languishing at the bottom of the NL East. Their playoff dreams are far out of reach at this point, needing a miraculous turn of events to even sniff the Wild Card round. However, the Mets can at least find some joy in upsetting the plans of some of these top teams in the league.
