Dennis Allen applauds Jaylon Johnson for ‘accepting challenge’ before 2026 season

The Chicago Bears are still without DB Jaylon Johnson, who recently suffered an injury during a joint practice. As he makes his way back to the team, he shows no hesitation.

That alone has won him the praise of defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, per CHGO Bears. During a post-practice presser, Allen said he appreciated Johnson’s willingness to step up.

“I think his leadership has started to kind of come to the forefront a little bit, and that’s needed,” Allen said. “We need him to play at a very high level for us to be successful. I think he understands that. I think he accepts that challenge.”

Then, Allen made it clear that Johnson is all up for the challenge.

“I think he’s looking forward to it” he said.

During a practice with the Tennessee Titans, Johnson apparently injured his arm or right shoulder. Head coach Ben Johnson has listed Johnson as day-to-day. The Bears are coming off having defeated the Titans 24-15 in their last preseason matchup before the regular season.

Meanwhile, Johnson has become a rookie favorite of Coach Johnson. Jaylon is poised to lead the secondary unit when he is healthy again. His being healthy has become a vital issue. The reason stems from last year. Johnson missed most of the season due to groin and core muscle injuries. In total, he missed 10 games.

Johnson has been with the Bears since 2020 when he was drafted in the second round. He is set to begin his 7th season in Chicago.

The Bears will kick off the regular season on Sept. 13 on the road against the Carolina Panthers.
