Latest pitching update for Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani comes with expected outfield admission

Will Shohei Ohtani pitch again this season? Could playing a corner outfield position be a possibility?

As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers star is likely not going to play in the outfield anytime soon. There is also a chance that Ohtani could be shut down from pitching again in 2026, but nothing is officially decided yet. Dodgers Nation shared the update from Dave Roberts on Wednesday.

“Dave Roberts says shutting down Shohei Ohtani from pitching this season remains a possibility, but the Dodgers will not make that decision yet. He also says playing corner outfield is ‘not on the table.'”

For those who may not be aware, Ohtani has been dealing with a knee injury concern. He has been able to remain in the lineup as the designated hitter, but Ohtani has been limited to 14 total starts this season on the mound due to injury.

The Dodgers would love to have Shohei Ohtani available to pitch in the playoffs. Even having him available as a reliever would give the team a boost. With that being said, LA obviously doesn’t want to risk further injury by having Ohtani pitch despite the lingering knee issue.

He is more than capable of providing a crucial boost at the plate. Ohtani will help this Dodgers team regardless of whether or not he pitches again this season.

Overall, the Dodgers have struggled in recent action. Los Angeles is looking to get back in the win column on Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET in Los Angeles.
