Stephen A. Smith blasts Kawhi Leonard for getting off easy in Clippers punishment

You bet Stephen A. Smith had something to say in the aftermath of the NBA’s controversial verdict on its investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers’ salary cap circumvention involving superstar forward Kawhi Leonard.

The ultra-outspoken Smith went off on Wednesday’s episode of his eponymous show, as he could not believe Leonard got so much of what he seemingly views as relatively easy punishment.

“That’s how Kawhi Leonard gets away with something so damn quiet. He never says anything. Everybody, his name just flies over it. Well, he was the one benefiting the most,” Smith said.

Smith also had blunt things to say about Leonard’s business manager and uncle, Dennis Robertson.

“And his uncle, Dennis Robertson, I mean, damn, is this the only job you got in life that you got to milk and soak everything? And if I sound, ladies and gentlemen, while I’m not happy, but you talk about justice being served when it comes to that man, the uncle, and Kawhi Leonard, I don’t think it’s painful enough for Kawhi Leonard.”

The NBA came down hard on the Clippers and team owner Steve Ballmer. Los Angeles was fined $30 million and got five future first-round picks forfeited, while Ballmer was suspended for a year from all NBA-related activities.

Also suspended are Clippers president of business operations Gillian Zucker and president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank. Zucker is suspended for a year without pay, while Frank’s suspension will last for six months, also without pay.

As for Leonard, the seven-time All-Star escaped suspension, but will have to pay the league $700,000, as Robertson gets banned in all NBA-related business dealings.
