Tom Brady’s hug with college volleyball star goes viral

A hug between Tom Brady and a college volleyball student has some fans coming to their own conclusions about the friendly embrace.

Brady was at the women’s college volleyball match between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Texas Longhorns on Sunday, Aug. 30, where the NFL icon was seen hugging Cornhuskers’ Harper Murray. He brought his daughter, Vivian Brady, along, as she has expressed interest in the sport.

A video with more than 3 million views of their embrace went viral, with some fans unaware of the two’s actual connection.

Tom Brady and Harper Murray’s connection

The volleyball star also has a football roots. Murray’s father, Vada Murray, was a defensive back for the Michigan Wolverines from 1988 to 1990. Brady would arrive years later and play quarterback from 1995 to 1999. Murray died in 2011 after his battle with lung cancer. The volleyball star shared why Brady decided to show up to the game.

“I know him through some Michigan connections and the football program and administration there,” Murray said per Husker Corner. “I know his daughter’s into the sport, so I’m sure that’s how he got into it and grew a love for the game.

“I think it’s awesome that we have people who are legends in their sport wanting to come and support a sport that’s growing in the last few years and has been so popular. I think it’s just really fun. I know our team loved that he was here.”

Despite conversations online insinuating anything besides a friendly embrace, Brady just wished the team luck on their season, writing, “Thank you and good luck this season LFG.”

While Vivian is only 13 she has shown great dedication and interest in pursuing volleyball. The teenager went viral playing the sport with her father back in May.

“Saturday nights with my future Olympian,” Brady wrote in his post. “I think I finally found someone who likes practice more than I did [laughing emoji].”

Brady shares Vivian with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen. The former couple who finalized their divorce in 2022, also share Benjamin. The NFL icon is also father to Jack, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan.
