Eagles’ Howie Roseman shuts down Jalen Hurts narrative as fans ramp up pressure

The title-retention tour of the Philadelphia Eagles last season ended on a whimper after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Many pinned the blame on Jalen Hurts, claiming that his leadership is not enough to carry the Eagles, even though he led the team to the Super Bowl in 2025. Hurts said he has learned to tune out the outside noise, which is nonstop in a city with a rabid fanbase.

Now, the popular narrative being hurled at the 28-year-old quarterback is that it is a make-or-break situation for him in the upcoming season.

Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ general manager, however, could not be more adamant in dispelling it.

“I think the bottom line for us in the position that we’re in, and really, for all our fanbase, is winning football games. All the guy does is win football games,” Roseman said on 94 WIP.

“For me, the barometer is winning football games. In terms of what Jalen does, he’s another guy with a tremendous track record. All he does is go out and play good football. Really excited to have him as our quarterback, excited about this season and what we have going forward, and I know there are a lot of fanbases out there that would love the results we’ve had with him as our starting quarterback.”

The Eagles chose not to give Hurts a contract extension ahead of the upcoming campaign, which many viewed as a sign that he is on his way out of Philadelphia if they do not have a deep run.

It also indicated that the Eagles want to see how the former Super Bowl MVP performs in their overhauled scheme under Sean Mannion, who replaced Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator, before making another long-term commitment.

Hurts signed a contract extension for five years and $255 million in 2023.

Philadelphia will face the Washington Commanders in Week 1.
