Jets QB Cade Klubnik ready to shut up haters after rough Clemson season

The New York Jets got a lot better during the 2026 NFL Draft. New York made three first-round picks, investing in significant upgrades on both sides of the ball. One Jets rookie is ready to prove his haters wrong after an underwhelming final collegiate season in 2025.

The Jets selected Clemson QB Cade Klubnik in the fourth round of the draft. Klubnik did not want to talk much about his 2025 Clemson season after being drafted.

“I think it was just a lot of little things that were kind of going wrong, but honestly, I don’t really want to get into that, to be honest,” Klubnik said, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I’m just celebrating being a Jet now, if that’s all right with you. But I’m thankful for this past year. It wasn’t how I wanted to go out, but I’m thankful for it because I learned how to really attack adversity.”

The 2025 season was a disaster for Clemson football. Klubnik underwhelmed, only logged 2,973 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Jets GM Darren Mougey acknowledged Klubnik’s struggles but also explained why New York sees promise in him.

“Unfortunately, he had a down year this year, but he’s still young, athletic with some upside and we feel really good about being able to get him,” Mougey said.

Meanwhile, Klubnik is well aware of New York’s checkered past as a franchise. But that won’t stop him from proving his haters wrong.

“I’ve been a football fan for a long time, so I’m obviously very aware [of the Jets’ quarterback history],” Klubnik said on a call with reporters after being drafted. “But I’m excited to go to work. It’s a new staff, it’s a new program, it’s a new culture, and it’s going to be a new roster. So let’s go to work.”

Klubnik will battle with Geno Smith, Brady Cook, and Bailey Zappe for snaps this fall.
