Jaylen Watson wants to team up with L’Jarius Sneed again, but Buccaneers make more sense
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season, looking to bounce back after missing the playoffs altogether in 2025. The Buccaneers have had an eventful offseason, headlined by the loss of Mike Evans to the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.
The Buccaneers have several areas of need to patch up before next season, including in the defensive backfield. One of the hottest names on the market is former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl champion cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who most recently played for the Tennessee Titans.
Recently, Sneed’s former teammate Jaylen Watson pitched the idea of a return to the Los Angeles Rams, which Sneed subtly agreed with in a post on X, formerly Twitter. However, Aaron Schatz of ESPN has instead pitched the Buccaneers as an ideal landing spot for Sneed this offseason.
“…what happens if there’s an injury to one of the starting outside cornerbacks, either Zyon McCollum or Benjamin Morrison? The third outside corner is Josh Hayes, who didn’t play a single defensive snap last season… Veterans such as Trevon Diggs and L’Jarius Sneed make sense here if they can be signed,” noted Schatz on ESPN.com.
While Sneed may not be quite the same player he was during his heyday with the Chiefs, he is still a solid veteran who would bring leadership and plenty of experience to the Tampa Bay secondary.
The Buccaneers’ defense was up and down throughout the 2025 season, but was one of the many areas to see a sharp dropoff down the stretch of the campaign, in which Tampa Bay choked a division lead and ended up missing out on the playoffs to the upstart Carolina Panthers.
In any case, Tampa Bay’s schedule for the upcoming season is slated to be released later this month.
