Jay Williams already making outlandish Kevin Garnett, Giannis comparisons for Caleb Wilson
Over the course of his career as an NBA analyst on ESPN, Jay Williams has had some wild takes. On Monday, Williams outdid himself when he compared North Carolina forward and future NBA Draft pick Caleb Wilson to Kevin Garnett and Giannis Antetokounmpo, per Get Up on ESPN.
Essentially, Williams predicts Wilson to be the best player coming out of the 2026 NBA draft class. From there, he evoked the names of Garnett and Giannis as templates for who Wilson could become.
“Now when I watch [Caleb Wilson] play, … the bar seems like Kevin Garnett, the ceiling seems more like Giannis,” Williams said.

Afterward, Williams was called out by Krysten Peck of NBA.com. The basis for her critique was not indulging in comparisons with established greats and letting players develop.
“Oh. My. God. Can we stop with these ridiculous comps please???!! Giannis are you kidding? Let these players develop and become their own player! We’re comparing a kid to a NBA champ, finals MVP, 2x MVP and 10x NBA all-star…this is reckless and total clickbait.”

The basis for the comparisons to Garnett and Giannis has to do with their size/length, two-way versatility, and athleticism
Wilson is predicted to be the No.4 pick in the 2026 Draft, which will go to the Chicago Bulls. Many are anticipating that Wilson will end up in Chicago.
Altogether, Wilson is coming off a record-breaking season at North Carolina. He averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds in 24 games. Additionally, Wilson set school records for 17 20+ games for a freshman and 24 consecutive double-doubles.
