The New York Knicks are officially NBA champs after knocking off the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday night. As expected, the streets of Manhattan turned into chaos after the win, with fans burning down their community and in some cases earning a trip to jail with their celebration of the team’s first title in 53 years.

Some people who happened to be in New York City but weren’t following the NBA Finals were baffled by the scenes, including Instagram user jimi3dash, who revealed that Saturday was his first day in the United States and showed some of the footage he captured of the celebration.

Thankfully, he was not wearing Spurs gear, or else he would have risked being violently assaulted, as has become a theme throughout these NBA Finals.

Meanwhile, the Knicks returned him on Sunday morning and will prepare for the championship parade, which is set to take place on Thursday in Manhattan.

This Knicks win in the culmination of several years of smart team building from the front office, turning the team from a laughingstock into champions with savvy moves, including the trade for OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns, as well as the signing of Jalen Brunson in 2022.

Brunson went on to win the NBA Finals MVP for his performance in this series, capping off the championship win with 45 points on Saturday night, keeping his team afloat on offense when not many players had it going on that end of the floor.

The Knicks are also set to return most of their core players next year, so fans are hoping that it won’t be another 53 years until the next time they are able to light Manhattan on fire.
